Overview
While Shopify gives you full edit capability to adjust your SKUs, you need to notify MasonHub before making certain changes. Failure to do so may result in inventory not being updated, SKUs not being created in MasonHub’s OMS, or an inability to receive your inventory at our facility.
Contact MasonHub Support before:
- Editing or removing the SKU on an existing product.
- Editing or removing the barcode on an existing product variant.
- Reorganizing how SKUs are structured, e.g. combining different styles into one product.
Add Barcodes
However, with the above guidelines in mind, you can add a barcode to an existing product as long as it previously did not have one.
Once you add the barcode to your product in Shopify, you will see it reflect in MasonHub's OMS.
The new barcode will display along with the previously defaulted "NO_BARCODE" value. MasonHub's OMS does not automatically delete or overwrite barcodes; this helps to prevent issues when a barcode changes but there is already product labeled with the old barcode in the warehouse.
Edit Barcodes
There are two common use cases which may prompt you to edit an existing barcode:
Items arrive labeled with a different barcode than what is in the system.
- If your product was physically mis-labeled, MasonHub can relabel the SKUs with the correct barcode upon receipt. In this case, we do not recommend editing the barcode in the system, but rather updating the physical product to reflect the correct barcode. Contact your MasonHub Account Manager to understand the fees associated with relabeling.
Items are labeled with the incorrect barcode in the system.
- If the wrong barcode was associated with a SKU in Shopify, you will need to work with MasonHub Support to perform the necessary adjustments in all downstream systems. When a barcode is removed from a product in Shopify, it is not automatically deleted from the MasonHub OMS and requires manual intervention from our tech team. This additional clean-up may cause delays in receiving any associated ASNs.
- If you're specifically looking to correct issues associated with duplicate barcodes, you can find additional information in the Fix Duplicate or Incorrect Barcode Errors article.
DON'T FORGET: Each product must have a totally unique SKU and barcode value. Once you create a product variant with a particular SKU and barcode, neither can be used to describe any other product variant. Pay particular attention when creating variants on a product to ensure you’re not duplicating the barcode. |
